Over six seasons and twoSATCmovies, Carrie Bradshaw established herself as TVs most stylish character.
Almost two decades after the original show wrapped,Carries outfitsare still settingsocial media ablaze.
And Just Like That… costume designersMolly RogersandDanny Santiagoare the brains behind the HBO reboots headline-making looks.
And theyre catering to keen-eyed fans, leaving sartorial Easter eggs as often as they can.
If shes walking through, we know fans are going to see something.
Its just a small little thing, but it looks so interesting.
Below, Rogers and Santiago talk Carries revived wedding dress, Parkers swoon-worthySATCfashion archives, and Mirandas style evolution.
In the first episode, Carrie rewears her famous wedding dress to the Met Gala.
How did that come about?
Molly:It was very premeditated in the script.
[Michael Patrick King] wanted to shoot the Met Gala for many years.
That was our challenge.
What was that going to be and how could Carrie take something from that look and integrate it?
Carrie often had a signature accessory in each season of the original series.
Could you speak to her choices these days?
Danny:For Carrie, we did layer a lot more bolder necklaces right now.
Sometimes theyre twisted up into themselves.
Sometimes theyre a little asymmetrical or theyre tucked inside of a neckline.
We had a lot of fun playing with that.
That was something we threaded through the entire season.
She continued to mismatch these earrings in Season 2.
She might try it.
You know what I mean?
Iwanted to talk about Mirandas story arc, as well.
How have you communicated her evolution through style?
Molly:Youre always growing, youre always looking, youre always [trying] to figure things out.
I think that was really reflected in her clothes, because it’s a little all over the place.
She goes out on a date with this lesbian, shes in some sexy dress.
She goes to LA, she puts on a cowboy boot.
Shes doing it when shes getting dressed, too.
Shes just looking to feel like herself.
Did any of Sarah Jessica Parkers personal wardrobe make it into the show?
Danny: Personal, no, but archival, yes.
She has an incredible collection that shes collected over the years from the original series.
She was smart to think that possibly someday people would want to see these pieces again.
All the favorites: the Roger Belt, some of the dresses, some ofthe handbags, theFendi Baguette.
She has quite an amazing archive of things that she saved and weve had access to pull from.
This year we did more accessories than we did clothing.
There are a few things in there.
A couple of handbags that make [an] appearance again.
What did SJP keep from the newAJLTseason?
Molly:She keeps all of it.
If its loaned, it goes back.
Although, of course, JW Anderson said, Keep the pigeon, you deserve it.
She takes everything, as Kristen [Davis] does, and Cynthia [Nixon] does.
They take a lot of their closet.
