Elyssa Goodman

Elyssa Goodman is a freelance contributor to Bustle and Elite Daily. She is a New York-based writer and photographer specializing in non-fiction writing and documentary photography. Elyssa writes under the arts and culture umbrella, about everything from body image and reproductive rights to Jell-O and drag. Elyssa has been a freelance writer for nearly 20 years, a freelance photographer for over a decade. Her writing and photography have been published in Vogue, Vanity Fair, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, The New Yorker, Playboy, them., InsideHook, Artforum, Elle, VICE, New York, i-D, and many others. A devotee of drag for nearly 30 years, Elyssa’s first book, Glitter and Concrete: A Cultural History of Drag in New York City, will be published on September 12, 2023 by Hanover Square Press/HarperCollins and is now available for pre-order. She is also the host and curator of the Miss Manhattan Non-Fiction Reading Series. Elyssa is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. Elyssa is passionate about glamour in all its forms. Perhaps accordingly, she likes wearing leopard print and red lipstick, often at the same time, and will probably ask you to go to a drag show with her.
