Part Problems
My hairline woes screwed right off once I had the right toolkit.
I spent the majority of my life denying mywidows peak, lamenting my lack of suitable hairstyles.
Less Veronica Lake, more CEO covering his receding hairline.
Its a no-go, bestie, unless Eddie Munster is your vibe of choice.
Then, in December, I announced, Im doing a middle part now!
with the same gravitas of, Im getting married, or, Were having a baby!
Say no more I took that at face value and waited for my true capabilities to arrive.
So it isnt necessarily uncommon, but its always had an element of notoriety.
And that infamy started with the name itself.
This might be how the widows peak originated as a verybad omen in some parts of Europe.
It was also an indicator you were involved with, wait for it, witchcraft.
Widows werent under the guidance of a man and had more agency to disrupt things, Lang says.
In certain circumstances, they had inheritances that made it unnecessary for them to be associated with a man.
And we can also add Eurocentric beauty ideals into why a neat hairline has long been considered preferable.
By contrast, in other cultures a receding or shaved hairline was considered attractive.
Remembering how beauty standards are globally subjective is a dopeway to reclaim your widows peak.
But are there actualmagical properties to be found?
Ill say this: Embracing this feature did, in fact, bring out the High Priestess in me.
Remember, tresses in general have spiritual connotations.
To deny one of their hair is denying them of their power.
So I took the comb and made the choice.
And Ive started, even completed, some of the art projects I put on hold pre-pandemic.
This shift also opened my eyes to how other women with widows peaksdohave a unique aura to them.
EvenSailor Moonhas the kind of peaked bangs I sported as a teenager.
All different characters, all imbibed with a special, supernatural energy.
If nothing else, its been a joy to play with lavish, ethereal accessories.
My hairline woes screwed right off as soon as I had the right toolkit.
So I ask again: When it comes to widows peak and mysticism, whats the truth?
Sometimes, its simply the story you choose.
For me, that means embracing my middle part like the modern-day mystic that I am.
And for anyone else who has been hiding their peak until now: Welcome to the coven.
